About this course

“You cannot consistently lead others better than you can lead yourself. Emotional Intelligence gives you the awareness and skills to understand your emotions, manage your responses, strengthen your relationships, and lead with greater intention.” Every day, we make decisions, communicate with others, respond to problems, deal with pressure, and navigate relationships. What we often fail to recognize is how much our emotions influence all of it. Emotional Intelligence begins with a simple question: How well do you understand what is happening inside you—and how does that affect the people around you? This course takes participants on a journey from understanding emotions to understanding themselves. It begins by exploring the difference between emotions and feelings and how emotional responses can influence memory, learning, communication, relationships, creativity, confidence, decision-making, and conflict. From there, the course moves into the development of Emotional Intelligence and the major models that have shaped our understanding of EQ. Participants are introduced to the work of Mayer and Salovey, Daniel Goleman, Bradberry and Greaves, and the Multi-Health Systems competency model. The heart of the course is the exploration of five areas that shape how we function personally and professionally: Self-Perception, Self-Expression, Interpersonal Relationships, Decision-Making, and Stress Management. These areas provide a framework for examining how we see ourselves, how we express ourselves, how we relate to others, how we make decisions, and how we respond when life and work become difficult. The course then brings Emotional Intelligence into everyday leadership. Participants examine how self-awareness affects behavior, how assertiveness can replace passive or aggressive responses, how empathy creates space for people to feel heard, and how emotional awareness can improve communication and relationships. The course also addresses one of the most important leadership challenges: making good decisions when emotions are high. Participants explore problem-solving, reality testing, and impulse control, including the importance of slowing down, examining evidence, challenging perceptions, and resisting the urge to react before thinking. Finally, the course turns to resilience. Leadership rarely happens under perfect conditions. Change, uncertainty, pressure, setbacks, and competing demands are part of organizational life. Flexibility, stress tolerance, and optimism help leaders remain effective when circumstances are unfamiliar, unpredictable, or difficult. The central message of the course is simple: Emotional Intelligence is not about becoming less emotional. It is about becoming more aware, more intentional, and more effective in how you respond. When you understand your emotional operating system, you become better equipped to lead yourself, communicate with others, manage conflict, make sound decisions, and build relationships based on trust.

Course description

Emotional Intelligence is not simply about understanding emotions—it is about understanding yourself, managing your responses, and recognizing how your emotions influence the people and situations around you. This course provides a practical introduction to Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and its role in leadership, communication, relationships, decision-making, conflict management, and personal effectiveness. Participants will explore the difference between emotions and feelings, the evolution of Emotional Intelligence, and several major EQ models, including the competency model developed by Multi-Health Systems. The course examines five core areas of Emotional Intelligence: Self-Perception, Self-Expression, Interpersonal Relationships, Decision-Making, and Stress Management. Within these areas, participants explore competencies such as emotional self-awareness, self-regard, self-actualization, emotional expression, assertiveness, independence, empathy, social responsibility, problem-solving, reality testing, impulse control, flexibility, stress tolerance, and optimism. Rather than treating Emotional Intelligence as a soft skill, this course presents EQ as a practical leadership competency. Participants will learn how emotional awareness affects the way they communicate, make decisions, respond to pressure, manage conflict, build trust, and work with others. The goal is not to eliminate emotions, but to develop the awareness and ability to use emotional information more effectively. Like the levels on a mixing board, different emotional competencies need to be adjusted according to the situation. The result is greater balance, better judgment, stronger relationships, and more intentional leadership.

Why you'll want to take this course

Leadership is not only about what you know. It is also about how you respond when things do not go as planned. You can have strong technical skills, experience, authority, and intelligence and still struggle as a leader if you cannot manage your emotions, communicate effectively, handle conflict, or recognize how your behavior affects others. This course gives you a framework for understanding those challenges. You should take this course if you want to become more self-aware, improve the way you communicate, strengthen relationships, make better decisions, and respond more effectively under pressure. It is especially valuable for anyone who has experienced situations where emotions took over, conversations became difficult, decisions were made too quickly, or relationships were damaged by the way something was communicated. The course also provides practical tools for recognizing emotional triggers, expressing yourself more effectively, being assertive without becoming aggressive, practicing empathy, testing your assumptions, controlling impulses, solving problems, adapting to change, and managing stress. Most importantly, this course encourages reflection. It asks you to examine not just what other people are doing, but your own emotional patterns, reactions, assumptions, and behaviors. The objective is not perfection. The objective is greater awareness and better choices. When you become more aware of yourself, you have greater capacity to lead yourself. When you can lead yourself, you are better prepared to lead others.
